Default Chrome slow loading compared to Firefox

Chrome is supposed to be faster than Firefox and it is on my PC when loading the browser. But when I load pages it seems slower than Firefox because my mouse and keyboard is locked out during the first 50% of the page load. With Firefox they are available much sooner. An example is when it's loading a newspaper page and I want to slide down to the body of the article bypassing the heading info and ads. The wheel on the mouse. the slider, and the down key are locked(inactive).

Are there settings in the options that I may have mis-configured or is this just the way Chrome is? I'm using Vista. Is there a setting in Vista that the browser talks to that can be modified?

Just to say (and without comparing relative merits of OSen) that Chrome is almost an order of magnitude snappier and more responsive under Debian than Firefox. I hear the FF 4 beta is much faster than v3 though. So here at least GC is much better : I find it stabler, faster, more responsive, far better to navigate with the keyboard and generally more polished. Its a GREAT piece of SW I think.

I agree that Chrome has some great features and is very fast booting up. However, with my Vista system it seems to have this problem with being slow once the initial parts of the page have displayed. The sequential pieces that follow, like ads for instance seem to lock out or delay my keyboard and mouse actions until the last modules are loaded. It's as if Chrome was not able to multi-process in cooperation with Vista. For instance, Foxfire seems to turn keyboard control back to Vista while waiting for the modules coming down the pipe. For some reason Chrome doesn't do this and therefore makes using the application much slower. It's very irritating. Is there some settings in the Chrome browser that might address this?

I'm not looking for answers or comments from average Chrome users like me. We lack the technical expertise that is necessary to properly address my problem. I would think that there would be a Chrome developer monitoring this forum that would have a good understanding of this issue. Where are you Mr. or Ms. expert?

I have this same issue. I really want to use Chrome, but the load-up times on big sites like Engadget.com, it just takes way too long. When I use Firefox it loads quickly. There has to be something hosing ours up ... or is Chrome really just this slow?

I'm with you Alex...Chrome was once blazing fast compared to FF. I've noticed during the past few months, I don't know if they are making changes or what, but the response time for the initial loading has become ridiculous. It also seems to be hanging much more often, and trying to gobble so much in the way of resources that other programs are having a hard time loading. I'm working on an XP system which never had any problems until about a month ago.

I've become so used to it that I just start the loading of Chrome, then go get a cup of coffee...

Am I doing something wrong? would love to get back to the "old" Chrome...

    thanks in advance.
