Default Chrome trying to download file when clicking link

    Hi,
weird problem just started with chrome. when i click on certain links (seems to be ones I have already visited but not all) occasionally instead of navigating to the page chrome tries to download a file.

for instance if i google paddy power and click on the result www.paddypower.com chrome tries to download a copy of the page and opens a save file dialogue. same thing happens if i type the address straight in to the address bar.

I have upgraded to the latest beta version and cleared all cache / history etc. and still no joy.

    any ideas

    thanx in advance gary

    Welcome to ChromePlugins

    Try clearing your cache;

Go to the Wrench and select Options.
Go to the Under the Hood tab. Click on Clear browsing data
    Clear browsing data
    Select Clear browsing history
    Select Clear download history
    Select Empty the cache
Optional Delete cookies and other site data
    Optional Clear saved passwords
    Select Clear saved form data
Select Everything in Clear data from this period.
    Click Clear Browsing Data

    Shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Del

Windows troubleshooting: Create a new browser user profile

If your browser user profile is corrupted, you can create a new user profile to replace the broken one:

    1. Exit Google Chrome completely.

    2. Locate the User Data folder by going to the Start menu > Run. Enter one of the following directories in the text field, then press OK.

    • Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\
    • Windows Vista: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\

    3. Rename folder as 'Backup User Data.'

You should now be able to open Google Chrome normally. A new 'User Data' folder is automatically created as you start using the browser. If you want to transfer your old browser history and bookmarks into your new user profile, copy the relevant files from the 'Backup User Data' folder to your new 'User Data' folder.

I followed those steps and the problem continues and it's happening on 2 of my PC altogether, one is XP and another is Win 7, both with the latest Chrome installed, after searched online hours and hours I can't even find an ultimate solution to solve my problem. Now I am suspicious if this is caused someones deliberately doing this for Google Chrome, like I am a Chinese, the government national firewall(GFW) is always trying to block some sensitive contents of make Google products timely dysfunctional, anyway I have no an exact idea how could this is happening and it's just exist and persist.

pls see the captured pic under:
