Default Enable GPU acceleration Chrome 7 - Can't get target in quotes

Basically what the title states. I am running Win7 Ultimate x64, I see the many postings how to get GPU acceleration enabled, and it says the target must be in quotes then you add the command after it and it should be in your task manager. Is there another way to enable this? Am I missing something? I've tried creating a new shortcut, once I put the quotes and hit apply the quotes disappear.

I don't know about Win 7 at all but in XP the command may look like this:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" -enable-accelerated-compositing

To do this in XP, one has to right-click on the short-cut, choose properties and alter the stuff in the target box to look like the above. I hope this of some help to you with Win7!

Yeah that's what I read, but the quotations disappear in Win 7 :-( It won't allow me to keep them and I think it's crucial.

I noticed in a tutorial recently they weren't using quotes and if windows is removing them then maybe you dont need them.
Did you check the task manager to see if it was there?
To make sure maybe use another command switch that is more obvious to see if its working like --apps-panel , add that and then click on the new tab button....if it works you wont get a new tab but a panel thingie.

Yeah I tried all sorts of variations, the GPU acceleration isn't coming up. I heard the latest nightly build enables it by default, but I prefer things that have a real installer and would install and register as being Chrome, not Chromium....I went back to 6 (for now) and I guess I'll just wait it out a bit until the next "beta" or whatever you would consider it where GPU is enabled as default. I found this exe in the directory where when I clicked it, "GPU" process showed in the task manager of Chrome, but the fish demo did no better at all, still 1fps.

Update: I've acquired 7.0.517.0, which enables GPU acceleration by default now. I see it in the Chrome Task manager list. Though, the fish demo with 1 fish still only runs at 1fps. I have a Nvidia 9600M GT. Is this not supported or is there something else to configure, etc?

    Weird...

When adding the switch "--enable-accelerated-compositing" or using the 7.0.517.0 version of Dev Chrome I have no more than 1 FPS (whatever number of fish in there)
When starting the 7.0.517.0 with the extensions disabled = switch "--disable-extensions" I have 18 FPS with 20 Fish

I found that the extension AdBlock - Version: 2.1.10 is causing this slowdown to 1 FPS (even with one Fish)

I guess I will have slow fish but no ad's then

So it works with Win XP. Nice to know.

That's going to be a big one-up on FF and IE, both of which will provide acceleration only on Vista or Win 7. IE 9 won't even run on XP!

    Really?
Another good reason to stay with XP
