Default Middle Click does not open a link in a new tab

I have been trying to find an answer to this issue with Chrome.

If I middle click (scroll wheel button) a link it does not open in a new tab.
I know I an hold CTRL + Left click to open a link in a new tab but this is not what I want.

I know middle clicking on a link should work as my mate runs Chrome and it works for him.

I also use SRWare Iron and it does not work for that either. It works fine when I use Mozilla and IE, so the issue is with Chrome or an OS setting.

I use Vista and latest versions of all browsers.

Any help appreciated as I really want to move over to Chrome permanently instead of using IE/Mozilla and this mouse gesture is a real necessity for me.

latest, ok, but which? dev/stable? which version exactly?
maybe a mouse driver problem? if you have a logitech mouse, it allows to make settings for each program in SetPoint, maybe it is messed up there for chrome?

I already had problems with middle-clicking when I had it set for a function from another program.. If its not that, you should follow what pcki11 tells you

    SRWare Iron : 2.0.178.0 (15300)
    Chrome: 2.0.172.37
    Mozilla 3.5
IE 8.0 (<< ok, i know it is old, but i don't really use it)
    Vista SP1

Mouse is a standard IBM optical mouse with a cable. I have not had a Logitech mouse on the laptop I currently use (ACER) and the SetPoint application is not installed.

I will be testing a few other 'mouse' and on another of my PCs soon. I hope it is not the ACER applications/add-ins kicking in and ruining my setup.

Ah, I had some IBM Mouse software that was messing things up. I have just 'unloaded' the IBM mouse software (I think it was called 'scroll point') and now the Middle Click works perfectly on both Chrome and SRWare Iron. Thanks for leading me to the solution.

it is strange that it was causing issues only with chrome, maybe you should file a bug report?..

I would be glad to if I knew how. I can replicate the issue on my 'Think pad' also.
