When I click that star, a bookmark is immediately added to a random folder - or maybe it's the folder that was last used for another website, I don't know.
In any case, it's feeble that an add-on has to be used to create accessible bookmarks, I'm very cross with Google for doing half a job, grrrrrrr!!!
But thank you for trying to help me, Waha![]()

Yeah it does add it to the last folder you put a bookmark in. But you are able to select from a drop-down of recently used bookmark folders, and if you need further changes, select the Edit button.
Just select the folder you want and hit okay.
They're pretty much identical functionality. Just no tags in Chrome. If you actually saw this I dunno what you're missing.
If you want to just view, then by default go in Other Bookmarks on the bookmarks bar. And if you don't want that, add the --bookmark-menu flag to your shortcut.

I have deleted most of this post because it was full of swear-words
I shall uninstall the addons and only use Chrome in an emergency - but I'm tempted to discontinue my use of all Google products in protest, I shall write to them and threaten to install Yahoo's toolbar in my Firefox in place of Google's - that'll frighten them
It's such a shame because Chrome is relatively fast and uncluttered, it's just the lack of a decent, simple bookmark system.
clemenzina
Is this not simple..?
It really just seems to me you have no idea how to use it, or haven't bothered trying to.
If you don't wanna use Chrome that's fine but I don't like people badmouthing things they don't understand, so make sure you actually understand how it works first..

It may well be that I have no idea how to use it, but it's insulting to suggest I haven't bothered. If you would "bother" to read this thread you would see that I've been wrestling with the bookmarks for several days. I "bothered" to add a screen shot earlier.
Why would I want a browser that includes THREE different bookmark icons and which will only add a bookmark to a WRONG folder? The bookmark tree has no Add to Favorites function - as far as I can see - which is the only reason it is NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
Therefore I plan to use Chrome only for 2 forums which I like to keep open at all times - it will take the strain off Firefox, but when I want to add a Favorite as a result of a link in those forums I will have to copy and paste over to Firefox to do it.
I will look at the link you provided - EDIT: Oops, you didn't provide a link, it was the sceenshot in your post that appeared as a link in the email alert I received.

I don't mean to insult you and yes I have read the thread. Hence there being an or.
You really can't expect a browser to psychically guess what folder you want it to put a bookmark into, you have to choose it yourself, and I've shown you had to do so.
I have no idea what these three bookmark icons you speak of are. There are merely two ways to access your bookmarks (not including extensions). These are the bookmark menu which PAEz explained how to activate, and by default the bookmarks bar, that shows various bookmark links you want quick access to, plus the Other Bookmarks folder. If you favor the bookmarks menu, you can use ctrl+B to turn the bookmarks bar off.
Realistically the functionality is exactly the same as Firefox's without the tags.
If by bookmark tree you mean that extension, you'll have to talk to the author of that extension about adding the feature you want. But at the moment you can use the star or ctrl+D to add a bookmark.
From your previous posts it doesn't sound like you were successful adjusting your shortcut to allow the bookmarks menu. If this is the case I'd be happy to assist you if you post your current shortcut's link.
You can access it by Right-Clicking the icon, selecting Properties from the menu, and copying the Target field's contents here. I will show you where to add --bookmark-menu

Nowadays I only use Google Favorites and have Google Toolbar on Firefox and IE8 so I have the same favorites... I couldn't believe that Google would create Chrome but withhold the bookmarksWhen I imported them they were all placed inside an additional folder, necessitating another tier of clicking. I moved them all individuallly into the top tier, but there's no Add to Favorites unless I go over to the left-hand side and click the star that adds the page to a random wrong folder.
I'm going round in circles now
Yes I did activate the bookmarks by adding the --bookmark thing. They are active now that I've removed the Tree add-on.
I don't see any other way of adding a fave.
This is the Star that adds a Favorite when I click it - I do not get a chance to select a folder, so I don't understand why you think I expect it to be psychic - it seems to think I don't care where my favorites are placedIt lives to the left of the URL bar.
Now that I've removed the add-on there is only one star to the right, but there were 2 here when the add-on was extant:
So that's THREE bookmark stars altogether.
In Firefox, the Google Bookmarks star has a drop-down arrow beside it, and clicking that results in:
and selecting Bookmark This Page results in:
allowing the selection of the desired folder in which the bookmark should be placed. But Chrome places a bookmark in a folder when one has merely clicked the star

If you look at the first image I posted, the upper left part is what SHOULD appear when you click the star or press ctrl+d. Then the bottom left is what appears when you hit Edit. Changing the folder in either and accepting moves the bookmark to the selected folder.
Can't really say much about the extra folder when you sync. But when you organize you can highlight all the bookmarks in a folder by clicking one and using the select all shortcut (ctrl+a), or by shift clicking to select a range, or ctrl clicking to select individuals, then you can drag all the select ones wherever you want. Those are the usual selection controls for stuff like this, including Windows Explorer.
So it seems part of the problem is that when you click the star you don't think you're getting the edit menu. So first of all, make sure you don't click anywhere else after clicking the star until it appears. Clicking outside the edit box cancels it, leaving the bookmark in the defaulted folder.

Ah! That's sorted then, it was a big part of the problem. If only I didn't have to then go into Bookmark Manager to tell it to Reorder by Title every time a bookmark is added
You won't convert me, I'm extremely indignant, I'd been very fond of Google up to now
I don't see how it's going to be easy to keep Chrome bmarks synced with the Google bmarks in Firefox, because I imagine if I re-sync to add in new bmarks Chrome will import the whole lot into that Google folder and I'll have to extract the one I want and put it in the top tier.
Oh well.
Thanks for trying to help me. It's 6.40am here, time for me to get some sleep - no wonder I'm addled.
