Default .tmp files not cleared on Chrome close

Does anyone have this problem - and if so, a cure?

Every time I open and use Chrome, and then close it, it leaves behind in my "temp" folder many files with names such as:

    0c5f5707-d9b1-4ed4-80d9-e4ed031cf66b.tmp

Sometimes as few as 8, sometimes dozens. None can be deleted without a reboot; they are reported as being in use. Most are zero bytes in size but some range up to 64KB.

By the end of a day there can be hundreds of them. They seem harmless but are very annoying. CCleaner cannot remove them until the computer is restarted. Task Manager does not show any Chrome elements still active.

Chrome DEV version 4.0.249.25 or 4.0.266.0. I do not recall if this existed in earlier versions.

    XP Pro SP2

I do not experience the same problem on a Win7 computer.

    Thanks.

I don't have a solution but I thought Chrome uses it's own folder for cache

These .tmp extension files are not the cache files which are in a separate folder. I do no know what they are. I disabled all extensions but that did not stop them. I may be wrong but I think files of this nature were in earlier versions of Chome but were removed when e Chrome Shutdown.txt file was written. That shutdown file does get written but nothing is cleaned up.

    Followup with the cure:

The problem to a combination of settings in AVG Virus Software v9.as traced to one of the various - specifically Link Scanner and Web Shield.

Strangely enough - but in the scheme of things "computer" not really surprising - the same AVG software, same settings, a copy of the XP Machine's User Data folder and Chrome 4.0.266.0 - does not exhibit the same problem on a Win7 Pro machine that was an upgrade from Vista Business.
