    Exclamation Listen Up...

    themers and theme users;
    1. it's customary to at least make an attempt to contact a themer, modder, etc. when you wish to host their work on your website .
    2. it is also really bad taste to arrange the wording in the description to look like the hosting site helped build the work .

    hey us themers, modders, etc. are always hungry to get our work out there and 99.999% of the time we will gladly bend over backwards to help your site host our files when asked . we did the leg work to get the themes/modifications built, the least you can do is the groundwork to respect it .

    other than that, we're all cool .

    The worst is when you contact them and they ignore you

    hey stag, that's a modifyer's right . however, the rule of thumb (at least in the gaming modding community) is that you wait a bit and if still no contact...you still fully credit in the READ ME AND description . but once the modification is on a new site, after the request has been made and agreed to by the modifyer or the modifyer has been given a fair amount of time to reply (2-3 weeks) the uploader site should NEVER alter or create a new description to say anything other than that the uploading site is hosting the modification .

    modifyers come and go, it's understood . emails change . people loose interest in the area of modifying they were once in....that's why there's a generally accepted buffer period between request and going ahead with the upload .

    I think p.fil's outrage was directed at me, so i would really like to apologize for that and i have corrected my mistake.. Sorry for that..

    As far as hosting rights are concerned - i think i mentioned on my request thread that it would be used to promote my fan site and would go there.. So i did not asked for your permission to get it hosted "exclusively" on the fan site..

    I hope you would feel better now?

    Also i am moving this to General Forum section..

    personally I think that anyone who wants to modify a theme for his/her personal use need not contact the original creator; however if the modifier changes the original theme and post it, he/she should request permission from the original creator and wait for at least 14-21 days for a response before posting the theme with credit to the original creator. this is my personal opinion and does not reflect this forum's views nor any theme creator.

    That you wait 21 days don't change the fact that you still breake the law

    perhaps I did not make it clear;
    if the original creator does not respond within 14-21 days, the modifier can go ahead and post it

    AFAIK, there are themes being modified after the original creator abandoned it; most theme creators will only modify original themes upon request and is not interested in "stealing" themes from other creators

    the same goes for extensions; modifiers do it for the benefit of users and not for monetary gains

    we're cool chrome . when the request was made for the theme, the usage of the theme was posted also . i mentioned contacting because it's an intricate part of usage . a VERY simple mistake was made, that is all (in NO WAY did i feel the admins of the bioshock2 site attempt to do anything but give credit where it was do) it was just the wording that unhinged me .

    personally I think that anyone who wants to modify a theme for his/her personal use need not contact the original creator...
    that's cool as long as it's as you said...for their own personal use and they're not looking to distribute it .

    @pfil : they were looking to distribute it as part of branding and promoting their site alongwith putting the credit for the original theme creator as well (that is you)..

    I though admit, their wording was not correct - as the whole theme design was yours.. So i made it clear to change and give all credit to you..

    But have to admit - gr8 job.

    <Start rant mode>
    If something is free people will NEVER respect it or value it...
    In my life I did a lot of things for free and was never respected, on the contrary!
    When you charge for something, even a very low fee, you get respect...
    Strange world, go figure.
