Default Access to search engines info

Is there a way to get access to information about Chrome search engines: get/set default search engine, get/modify list of all search engines with URLs, keyworlds, favicons etc?
My idea is to create extension which would show browser action, list of all found search engines and search selected text (or text entered to Omnibar) with engine chosen from that list (similar like firefox). And maybe would change default search engine if user will want to.

I mean access to this information from extension (programmatically) so that my new extension will search selected text with selected search engine, in 2 clicks.
I think this is similar to Context Search And Search Engine Drop-down Box

Unfortunately it can't be configured automatically, using all search engines already "gathered" by Chrome.
But actually, I don't even ask an extension. I just need API to write my own extension instead.
