I was wondering if anybody has more info on this error message. I understand that limitations are placed on usage of the bookmark API, but I can't find any information on what the quota is, how to reset it or when they do reset, etc. It definitely makes it difficult to develop extensions with these restrictions. Any help is appreciated.

I think I've come up with a solution. It's slightly inconvenient, but it works. I just renamed my app folder, the app was then assigned a different ID and that way the quota resets. I still wonder how this quota works though.

You dont really say much about what your doing besides using the bookmark api so its pretty hard to know if anyone can help.
The error message sounds like your doing some kind of storage but never mention it in your post.
Local storage is limited to 5meg and so is a local database unless you use the unlimited storage value in your manifest.....

...also you can see the storage stuff on the dev tools (try deleting something to see if thats it), id be wondering what your doing that its going over 5meg...if thats your problem

What exactly are you doing that makes the error message come up

EDIT:unlimitedstorage applies only to webdatabase; localstorage is still capped.

I'm just using the bookmark API, adding, removing, and updating bookmarks and bookmark folders. So nothing to do with local or DB storage. Basically, I'm fetching bookmarks from delicious and adding them as Chrome bookmarks. Needless to say, if you have a fair amount of bookmarks, it results in a lot of calls to the bookmark API, especially while you're developing and testing. So after a while I started getting the error message above.

Thanks for the link. I searched that group and found the following explanation:

"The extension system has a built-in rate limiter on bookmark
operations to avoid overloading Chrome's built-in bookmark sync
system. It should only trigger under extreme usage of the bookmarks
API.

I believe the current limits are a max of 2 of the exact same
operations per minute, sustained for over 10 minutes.

So, if you update the exact same bookmark to the exact same value
twice a minute for 10 minutes, you'll hit it."

Still doesn't tell me if there's a way to reset things, but I guess I'll ask and see what people say.
