can anyone point me to some information on making plug in's for chrome. I'm a programming student and was considering working on a mouse gestures plug in as a project for fun.

I also can't find any solutions how to do it.
Mouse gestures work pretty well with StrokeIt and a custom config file. Get them here:

Plugins must be done as external programs (like StrokeIt here or Privoxy to block ads), or as JavaScript bookmarklets. However, addon support is coming.
So, there is no clear answer to what you should make, if any at this point. What programming languages you study/master? JavaScript is definitely the way to do it right now, but others can be handy too.
