@fugo
I've just installed Ubuntu 9.10 specifically to see what does and doesn't work as far as the Dev channel builds for Chrome can do in Linux ...
Certainly Extensions and bookmark syncing seem to be an issue ...
Watch this space ;-)
So how's 9.10? What's new in 9.04? BTW How do I install Chrome on Ubuntu?
@Clouds
So far its OK, let me explain ...
Because I have a Raid0 config on my laptop (and had major issues the last time I tried to install Ubuntu - 8.04) and AMD64 there were a coupler of things I needed to check out before installing it 'properly' ...
I used the Wubi installer from the Desktop Alternate 9.10 ISO to install 9.10 inside my Windows environment - this worked absolutely flawlessly (19Gb install) ;-)
I use Mobile Broadband (Three) to access the Internet and I needed to make sure this wasn't going to be an issue - Again installation was flawless (and oh so easy) ;-)
Last, but not least, installing Chrome ...
I found a download (for both i386 and AMD64) and downloaded to a pendrive ...
As I'm a novice with Ubuntu (and Linux !!) I tried the simple approach ...
Booted into my Ubuntu install and plugged my pendrive in ...
Clicked on the Chrome install file (AMD64)...
Hey Presto .... Chrome installed with no problems
Checked Chrome (about ...) and I've now got 4.0.223.11 installed ;-)
Due to other commitments I haven't had a lot of time to play, but first impressions are that the Linux version isn't as up to date as the Windows version even though it's the same number ...
Next I'm going to install Ubuntu properly and then go back to when Chrome first became available for Linux and trace it's history forward to the present and see what should and shouldn't be available and compare it to the Windows version ...
From what I've seen so far, there appears to be quite a bit missing, especially the kind of things that would want to make you move (Extensions. bookmark sync)
Obviously one thing I can't do for you is to compare to 9.04, as I said, this is my first real experience of Ubuntu ...
I know you said you had problems installing Chrome and I was going to attach a Zip with both the i386 and AMD64 install files (.deb) that I used, but for some reason the attach file on this forum isn't working so if you want them let me know and I'll email them ...
Don't take any notice of the fact the names say 'unstable' this is because they were originally released around the time the first Linux versions of Chrome became available (they are up to date)....
You can actually get the files (.deb) from the official Early Access Release Channels page (the one that has the link for changing channels) ...http://dev.chromium.org/getting-invo...nnel#TOC-Linux
There isn't a problem with the installation as I've got the latest version ;-)
As we don't seem to have many posts from Users with Linux installs I'll probably do a post when I've had time to have a play (don't hold your breath!!) ...
