I'm working a plug-in that will generate URL for a object file to download.

I want to download the file from this URL, to a specified directory and show this item in Chrome's download list (chrome://downloads/)

Does Chrome provide such a download API?

I'd also like a download API.
I'd like to be able to get a callback to happen when a file finishes downloading, so I can then do something like play a looping sound or run a script. It could also display one of these notifications: http://code.google.com/chrome/extens...fications.html
At the moment I have to use an external timer tool and have it count down whatever chrome says the time left is.
Firefox has better support for this, but I want to use chrome coz its faster.
