Default How to create a new theme for Stable / Beta / Dev Chrome

1- Download Chromium Theme Creator v2 and Chromium Theme Creator v3
(Chromium Theme Creator v3 contains Themer.exe only, you need to put where CTC version 2 was installed, replace or coexist with another name.)
2- Download the version of .rc file and copy it to the program's directory (by default it is at "C:\Program Files\Chromium Theme Creator\")
    3- Download and replace theme.zip at "C:\Program Files\Chromium Theme Creator\"
4- Use a graphics editor and modify the theme images as much as you want to make your theme.
    5- Pack it up
6- Post it to Chrome forums like this one
7- Make your themes become popular
    8- Be happy

    Thanks to
    Stamga for providing the text,
U_I for providing the .rc and image files,
Jedi Knight for providing the theme.zip,
vhanla the creator of Chromium Theme Creator

note: When Chrome is updated, a new .rc file and new images must be downloaded in order to create themes

All currrent .rc files and images kindly provided by U_I

    Download Files;
    1. Chromium Theme Creator v2 ThemerV2.zip
contains application for Chromium Theme Creator v2
    2. Chromium Theme Creator v3 ThemerV3.zip
contains theme.exe, replace old theme.exe or add it to (after changing name) C:\Program Files\Chromium Theme Creator\
    3. .rc file for Stable Chrome Download
    4. .rc file for Beta Chrome
    5. .rc file for Dev Chrome Download
    6. theme.zip Download
copy it to "C:\Program Files\Chromium Theme Creator\", contains all the image files up to current version of Chrome
    7. build.cmd Download

How to install the new theme?
    1. Make a copy of the original theme default.dll which is located here under Windows XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\VersionNumber\Themes
    2. Copy the new default.dll to it

    Additional info:
    Tip provided by Jedi Knight
Using CT Theme Manager to preview and install themes.
    See here http://sites.google.com/site/chromiu...-theme-manager

As there is no viewer available at the moment for themes, please include a
    200px by 150px preview image named "thumbnail.png" and a text file named "details.txt" with the following (see example);

    Code:
    #name
    GreyShadows
    #creator
    Jedi Knight
    #website
    http://valorsolo.com
    #copyright
    VS-Designs ©2009
    #notes
A dark theme with multiple shades of grey
    #builder
    Chromium Theme Creator
Then place a copy of your themes default.dll, details.txt, and thumbnail.png in the folder you created above to X:\CT Theme Manager\themes\<name of your theme> The theme can be viewed and installed using CT Theme Manager

    No more default.dll
With the current version of Dev Chrome, default.dll is no longer use for themes; themes are incorporated into chrome.dll

    To create themes for Dev Chrome, you would need the additional files;
    1. Reshacker
    2. build.cmd

    Method (Contributed by U_I)
    How to use build.cmd
Put the build.cmd, reshacker.exe, default.dll (build for 4.0.249 by CTC), chrome.dll, in the same folder, then run build.cmd

How to create themes using crx format
    1. Download crx theme creator from here

    2. Use the following dimensions in pixels as a guide
    Background (400x800)
    Frame (550x250)
    Toolbar (32x32)
    Tab (32x32)

    Default Linux

Is there a gui for creating chrome themes in Linux? I have already tried running the app in wine. The gui runs but it doesn't install into ~/.wine/c-drive/program files.

If not could anyone point me in the direction of an example theme?

    P.s I am really interested in creating a KDE4 theme for chromium/chrome

You explained everything perfectly well, expect the part of the 197 and 201 files. What do I do with them?

the images from 197 and 201 are in the theme.zip
    you can ignore 197

for 201 you need to extract the .rc file and put it to "C:\Program Files\Chromium Theme Creator\" [by default]

ps and thanks for pointing out; will revise the text

I got the part of the rc, that you need to put it in the same folder as the other rc's. But I got confused on what to do with the image folders in the 197 and 201 files. So I just took the app, back, home, forward, and what ever was there and put in this folder "C:\Program Files\Chromium Theme Creator\projects\NameOfProject. With the other image files and it worked.
BTW Thanks for the great tutorial. Will be very happy if you provide a rc or future updates . Oh and can someone give me the default.dll for 4.0.201.1
