Yes, split Google Chrome down the middle in one tab. For the multi-tasking type this will enable you to create 2 side by side “panels” in Chrome in the same tab so you can browse two sites at once side by side.
Why not switch between tabs?
A few reasons, maybe you want to compare search results on both Google and Yahoo or do side by side comparisons of products. Maybe you want to reference something in the left panel and type about it in the right and switching tabs is a pain.. Well this will enable you to do just that. See examples:
A comparison search for Chrome on Google and Yahoo
Reference content in one panel, write about it in the other
To use simply drag and drop the following in your bookmarks…
When clicked, a pop-up box asks for the first URL which will be the left panel and the URL you are currently on will be entered by default however this can be changed so in my dual search i entered Google.com for this one. Once you ok it, it will ask for the second URL which is the right panel and i entered Yahoo.com for my search comparison.
Simple, Google Chrome split down the middle with a double panel all in one tab.
Enjoy, also check out the Chrome Forums for a bunch of things like this.
Also here is an experimental translate bookmarklet:

i keep learning about more and more advantages and features with Chrome, with privacy, for example; now if only they would take care of it’s cookie management glitches…
Hi
Thx for sharing. I found a lot of great tricks for chrome on your site.
I’ll be back
Hi Can’t seem to get this work, the left window opens ok, the right window goes to a 404 screen?
Any Help with this thanks.
Dual view is great!!!
Request: Synchronize Scrolling.
I tried doing a search compare between Google and Yahoo!. The Yahoo! site seemed to break the frame and take over the full window. Is that what’ s supposed to happen?
Very cool feature. Haven’t explored it fully, but wasn’t sure if the following were possible:
1. Closing just one frame and allowing the other to take over the whole tab. Not sure if this is currently possible - I couldn’t see it. All I could see is a way to open the frame in a separate tab/window and then closing it, as a workaround.
2. Resizing frames - i.e. making one larger than the other.
3. Right-clicking a link should give me the option of opening the link the other frame - this would really help in cases where I want one frame to contain my Google search results and open the links one by one in the other frame.
4. Synchronizing the scrollbars - as an option - not as the only option. I can see cases where I wouldn’t want the scrollbars to synchronize.
4. Not sure if this is a bug - if I open an empty tab and then try to initiate dual-view, nothing happens - the tab doesn’t split into two and neither of the sites load.
This is a very cool feature. I’m not sure if this is a true bug or not, but when I click Chrome Dual View while viewing a page, the site that I enter into the javascript box is automatically added to the current url in the address bar. This is why Incredpeople was getting a 404 page.
For example, I’m browsing http://www.wowhead.com, and I want to dual view it. I enter http://www.wowhead.com in the first box, and http://www.google.com in the second. The left panel shows wowhead just fine, but the second panel gives me a 404 because it’s trying to find “www.wowhead.com/www.google.com”
It would be perfect if I could open the page in one side and the Javascript Console in the other. Or if each site had a url (omini?)bar
this is great along with the other add ons but how do we use them without clicking on the link from this site
oh wait never mind you just add them as book marks
Icredpeople and Greta, i can’t replicate one side throwing a 404 at all. I went to wowhead.com and entered wowhead.com in the first box and Google.com in the second and it worked perfectly on 3 different PC’s and Chrome installs as you can see in this screenshot: http://i35.tinypic.com/2akl56t.png
Garu, yes you can resize the frames just click and hold the gray line down the center and drag it left and right.
Right clicking a link and having ‘open in another frame’ isn’t possible without an API to make extensions. You can right click a link and have it open in another tab or window though. As for synchronizing the scroll bars, i really don’t see this offering much advantage. You can scroll the frames with the mouse wheel by just hovering it over the particular frame without the need to click the frame to make it active first.
If your mouse is near the center divider, it’s just a matter of moving it left or right half an inch to scroll either one, which would be faster then manually switching options to do it.
MaiconMM, yes each side having it’s own Omnibar, bookmark access, reload/stop function would be ideal indeed. Unfortunately this isn’t possible, but as soon as Google give us the ability I will make it because it’s something i’d really like also.
Oh, That is so cool. It may make 37 signals usable!
I can’t figure out how to drag this link into a bookmarks tab. I’m not that familiar with Chrome yet. Can someone explain how to do this?
Also, another use: for translation comparision.. excellent tool!! tks. BTW, there could be something like the “select and search” functionality for translators, something like “select and translate” and the selected text could be submitted to a selection of translating engines…
GreenBay: You literally click and drag the link over in to your bookmarks and drop it. Or you can right click and copy the link, then manually create a new bookmark and paste the link in the URL field.
marcelo: Interesting, ok here’s a very quick one it will translate the selected text using Google Translate in “Auto Detect Language” mode so it will work for any language out of the box. But.. it will only work for standard English characters, so stuff like “dans la mise en” will work but “prévisibles” will not due to the character thing above the “e”.
I know nothing about other languages, and i have been up 24 hours but i will look in to it tomorrow and see if i can get it working for all characters in every language. Have a try:
Edit: Change of plans, the code messed up the comments so i added it as a link at the bottom of the Dual View article.
Looks like you have to have the full address in the fields. I was just putting http://www.yahoo.com and it wouldn’t work but when I left the http:// in front of it, then it did work properly.
So you NEED to have the:
http://
else it won’t work.
Not sure if it’s just me, but it doesn’t seem to be working anymore. Just takes me to the first page.
same here. doesn’t seem to work anymore.
the easiest way ive found to use dual view is to open a new tab and before doing anything use dual view. And be sure to use http:// for both urls
works on opera too!
I’ve been using a similar Translate bookmark since a long time now. I was using it in Firefox but it’s working well in Chrome too.
Where can I download this plug-in or that plugin will be avabillable only for full version of google chrome?
It’s just some javascript and it works on firefox just fine.
