Aero Theme 2.3 – Another beautiful theme

by Stamga on May 22, 2009

Since Chrome V, there hasn’t been much themes available to us, but now there is! I have been working on this theme for about a month now, so it should be bug-free. If you ever encounter a bug or you would like me to change something, don’t hesitate to comment on this post or on the forum post.

Installation Instructions:

Download the file and extract the default.dll located in the folder of the Channel you are on and the Color you want.

For Windows XP Navigate To :

C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\VersionNumber\Themes\

For Windows Vista or Windows 7 Navigate To :

Note: Change UserName to your PC’s user name, and VersionNumber to the highest version number there. Prior to replacing your default.dll files, always make a backup copy of it incase anything goes wrong.

2 Stamga 05.23.09 at 7:59 am

Thanks! but it seems like it doesn’t work on the Beta channel (… I will have to find another way to build them for that version.

4 Roy 05.23.09 at 9:19 pm

Nice….works well.

5 Hitesh 05.23.09 at 10:00 pm

how to instal this theme

6 Kyrax 05.24.09 at 11:10 am

I think reading ” Installation instructions ” would be a good start…

7 Matthew 05.24.09 at 9:48 pm

I cant navigate to C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\VersionNumber\Themes\
C can only go to C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\USER DATA…\Default and further.
I am running Dev, and yet i dont have the folders?

8 Stamga 05.25.09 at 7:46 am

It should be this: C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\\Themes

If you can’t reach those folders, then there is a major problem with your installation of Chrome. Those folders also contain your Chrome exe, so it is impossible that you don’t have them.

Go to your toolbar in your directory (any directory) and follow these directions:

Tools > Folder Options > View (tab) > “Show Hidden Files and Folders”

The Local settings directory is hidden by default.

Hope that helps.

What is the difference between V2 and V2.1?

Also it doesn’t work with Chrome version (stable). Unless I’m doing it wrong…

11 Stamga 05.27.09 at 6:47 pm

Well V 2.1 is a more recent version (It fixes a bug where the header becomes black in V 2) of the theme.

And, I have been having trouble building the themes for Chrome, so I strongly suggest you to change channel to the Dev channel, where the themes are compatible.

12 XC Fan 05.28.09 at 5:51 pm

NOOOOOOO! Just about as soon as I started using it I upgraded my dev version and it doesn’t work anymore! I hope Google lays it out so that these themes will keep working!

13 Patrick 05.28.09 at 7:52 pm

Oh.. Alright thanks!

@Everyone on the Dev channel: I’m updating the themes to right now.

24 DerB@ndit 06.03.09 at 6:21 am

I have version which is not working. What is that with the different channels all about? No clue how to change channels. Any advices

25 Stamga 06.03.09 at 6:31 pm

You can read more about channels here: http://www.chromeplugins.org/google/chrome-talk/different-channels-choose-7399.html

@Everyone on the Dev channel: I didn’t manage to update the themes… I will update it once I found out how to, for that version.

@Everyone on the Dev channel: Theme has been updated and is now compatible with 😀

28 hypophysis 06.04.09 at 5:37 pm

Thanks Stamga for this nice theme and all the work and effort you invested in it.
For me it’s the the theme i’ve been waiting for to make chrome look consistent with the XP Royale Remix Zune Theme.

Let’s hope that they will establish official theme support soon. I really don’t understand why default.dll get’s incompatible with almost every new version, without any noticeable change in the original user interface.

29 Stamga 06.04.09 at 7:07 pm

Your welcome.
And I also hope that they’ll stop changing theme builds.
They’re incompatible due to new images and functions that they add to themes at almost every build. ie, in the previous theme build, they added the possibility to customize the bookmarks bar and added different header images for when the window is maximized and minimized.

@Everyone on the Dev channel: Chrome’s Version changed again and the theme build is now incompatible with the current version 🙁 I’ll do my best to rebuild them as soon as possible.

Your theme looks really neat, but it is bugged on
So I was wondering if you could update your dll so it works with the dev channels last version.

Thanks in advance

33 Stamga 07.23.09 at 4:49 pm

Thanks for the comment! Aero has been updated to V 2.7 to be compatible with Chrome

Just view the forum thread for the download.

Hi guys..

I’ve found my Google Chrome path at:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Configuración local\Datos de programa\Google\Chrome\Application\\Themes

where [Configuración local] is the same that
[Local Settings] (don’t ignore the accent at [ó])
where [Datos de programa] is the same that
[Application Data]

I’m using Windows XP and the Chrome version
I’ve downloaded the Black & White Aero V2.3 and it works perfect 😀

Thanks 😀

35 Stamga 08.21.09 at 8:24 pm

Np! Glad you like it! 😀

36 Donnie 08.24.09 at 2:56 pm

I am having trouble installing this, I am able to unzip it, but there are 2 .ddl files, one in the “black” folder, and one in the “white” folder, which one do I put into my “themes” folder?

I have the dev channel of google chrome

40 The Wannabe 02.20.10 at 8:22 pm

I’ve put the dll file in themes in the correct location but it didn’t ask to replace anything and the folder was empty in the 1st place, restarted Chrome but the theme wasn’t applied…

41 Dan 02.26.10 at 10:14 am

I could’t find the origin default.dll in themes, and i have also checked hidden folder…

42 Stamga 02.26.10 at 10:19 am

This theme is outdated. You will have to use my new CRX themes instead.

43 Dan 02.26.10 at 10:19 am

agree with The Wannabe…

44 Evan 06.09.10 at 10:31 pm

Umm if you have windows 7, the installation instructions will not work… Instead, go to your local disk, program files, google, chrome, the highest version(i.e 5.0.375.55) , and then themes lol it worked for me :p

45 Recalled2Life 02.17.17 at 7:40 pm

Does anyone know the path for Chrome in Windows 10? The paths in this post are not relevant.

Below is the path I have, instead of application\version\theme\ it is user data now because of the profiles.:

C:\Users\STEVEN.KNACK\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\

When I perform a search for “Theme” in the above location I only get 1 folder result and it is for the custom theme extension I have installed.

C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions\mfidmkgnfgnkihnjeklbekckimkipmoe\9.2.415_0\skin

I tried uploading in DEV Mode but I just receive an error.

Any thoughts or help with be appreciated.

46 Recalled2Life 02.17.17 at 7:42 pm

WOW, I just realized I am the first person to post on this thread in almost 7 years, that explains why this theme no longer works I suppose.

That being said, has Stamga released a version that works with the current builds of Chrome?
