Mac Theme for Google Chrome

by Chrome Blog on September 5, 2008

Note: This theme is not an official release by Google it was created by a third party developer. You will need to be familiar with swapping a .dll file in your Chrome installation to install this theme.

Mac v1.0 Google Chrome Theme

Installation Instructions:

1. Download the file from the download link below.

2. Extract the files from the archive using your own extraction tool. Ie: WinRAR

3. Go to: (Replacing USERNAME with your username)
Vista – C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\0.2.149.27\Themes
XP – C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\LocalSettings\AppData\Google\Chrome\Application\0.2.149.27\Themes

And backup your existing, Default.DLL file (Just incase anything goes wrong)

4. Copy over Default.DLL from your extracted files into your Themes folder

5. Open up Chrome and walla! You have a new theme installed.

Chrome Theme

If you wish to revert to your default Chrome Theme it’s just a matter of closing down Chrome, copying your original default.dll (you did back it up didn’t you?) back in to Chromes theme folder. When you open Chrome again your browser will be back to normal.

Looks nice, since this is the first theme i could find I would like to congratulate the developer on his scoop.

Like the Mac skin for Firefox it makes everything look dull grey and Safari like, which took up Nutscrapes mantel as the most annoying boring browser.

I have a Mac and Vista and I don’t know why everyone gets so excited by grey, square. At least their brushed metal had some point, but they did away with that in Leopard.

Could any of you talented themers and modders out there give us a nice Aero black glass theme for this excellent browser? – or maybe just one that actually looked chrome?

Chris – While it’s not exactly an Aero Black theme, the Firefox 3 theme just submitted may suit. A Vista theme is being worked on however i currently don’t have an ETA but it will be up here the moment it’s done. :)

This happens to be my theme, i would of liked it if the publisher actually contacted me first however i am happy you posted a link to my DA page. Any future releases please ensure you link back!

On your download page you have, quote:

“Share with as many people as you may wish to do so!”

I have cited you as the author, linked to the source what more do you want? I’d rather pull the thing off the site if you are making Open Source stuff but don’t want it shared.

RAR format, eh? Planning to distribute on floppy disks?

Would like to try–won’t bother finding unRAR to do so, when unZIP is integrated into every OS.

Your path does not work for me. I have chrome 9.x and there is no default.dll that I can find. Can you check that and email me? Thanks.

I can’t use it on Windows 7. I tired the Vista one but didn’t work. There is no “0.2.149.27″ folder. I even tried searching for “default.dll” and couldn’t find it in the chrome folder. PLZ HELP :’(
