I know a lot of you guys were waiting for some new and tested themes to modify your Google Chrome with, but due to frequent changes in the versions of google chrome it is very difficult to make themes which would be compatible with various versions.
However, one of our Forum Moderators, Stamga created some nice themes which are working for multiple versions of Google Chrome inlcuding the latest stable and the dev versions.
Installation Instructions:
Download The File and extract the default.dll located in the folder of the Color you want.
For Windows XP Navigate To :
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application.2.149.27\Themes\
For Windows Vista Navigate To :
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\0.2.149.2 7\Themes\
Note: Change UserName to your PC’s user name, and the application folder to the highest version number. Prior to replacing your default.dll files, always make a backup copy of it, incase anything goes wrong.

themes looks great but bookmark bar is not “themed”. and that’s a big thing
The thing is, the bookmarks bar is integrated into Chrome and, therefor, cannot be skinned. If you look at any other Chrome theme, they won’t be skinned either.
Its works perfectly. just one problem though, would it be possible to change the font color of the tabs? i am using your black theme and i can barely see the tab titles. hehe. just a suggestion in case you are still doing modifications on the themes.
Well, thats another thing thats not modifiable on the themes, the font style and color… Sorry about that.. Also, Version 2.5 is the final version, so there won’t be any other changes other than the compatibility with the new Chrome versions.
I see.. Still love the themes. Guess with chrome still under works, themes are far from the developers mind. haha. Thanks again, got really tired of the blue theme.
this file downloads as a .rar file type and can’t open it how do I make this work?
You need a small application called winrar. Just google it and download and install that application. It would also open .zip files , so no need to have winzip anymore.
Sorry about that. If you would like to have it in the .zip format, please ask me on the forums and I will repost it.
I myself use the black theme and, although the tab hover seems not to be working correctly, it’s really good to see packs like this relatively early into customisable Chrome ‘plugins’.
Really appreciate it!
P.S. 7-Zip for the win!
Hello,
I would just like to thank you for your time and effort into creating these skins! Much nicer to look at than the default Google Chrome blue thing.
I understand that, currently, it is impossible to skin the bookmarks, but was wondering if you planned on updating these skins should it become possible in the future.
Thanks in advance for your response!
Once they make it skinnable, I might update it for the themes.
For 2.0.168.0+ users, you can download the file here: http://cid-479db72425a8115e.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Google%20Chrome%20Themes/True|_Live|_2.5|_|5Chrome|_2.0.168.0+|6.zip .
Please tell me if it fixes the bugs or not because I didn’t test them.
To access download, copy the whole url (http://cid-479db72425a8115e.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Google%20Chrome%20Themes/True|_Live|_2.5|_|5Chrome|_2.0.168.0+|6.zip) and paste it into your address bar.
People have tested it, and it does fix the bugs.
Hi,
I am having a problem… I am not having the folder Application.2.149.27 or Application.1.xx on the specified folder. I only have ‘User Data’ folder on the Crome folder location. Even I checked on other user’s folders and ‘All Users’ folder too. But there is no such folder. I am currently updated to Crome Ver: 1.0.154.59.
Do you have any solution?
That’s a problem… Are you sure that there isn’t an Application folder? Because that is where Chrome’s exe is (in other words, Chrome shouldn’t work without it).
Anyways, I think changing channel should fix it:
- Download the Chrome Channel Changer: http://chromium.googlecode.com/files/chromechannel-2.0.exe
- Open it and set it to Dev Channel
- Restart Google Chrome
- Go to (Wrench Menu) > About Google Chrome
- Click Update Now
- Download & Install my theme for version 2.0.170.0+
Hey everyone, i just made up a theme pack, and an application to convert old themes to new ones for version 2.0.169 and greater.
Feel free to use it, and dont forget to download the Theme pack if you are on the Dev or Beta channel:
Chrome Themes for Latest Version
Hey there,
I’m having a problem, I downloaded the themes, but the dll. doesn’t work on my PC : ( Can you plzz tell me what should I do?
Can’t get it to work on latest dev channel 2.0.180.0
I downloaded the pack marked for “Latest Google Chrome Dev Versions (2.0.170.0+)”
Did something change for the latest dev channel, or do I have to do something more than just replace the default.dll file?
Luckily I made a copy of the original, because with yours, as soon as I click to open Chrome, I get an error saying Google Chrome Crashed. The browser never even opens. Oh, fyi, I am running XP with the latest service pack. Thanks.
what this can work for version 1.0.154.65?
I’m sorry guys, but I’m no longer supporting these themes until none of the versions work. If you want themes compatible with version 2.0.181.1 and higher, try my new Aero themes.
its weird because a lot of people are saying this works but when i try it, it says something like “google chrome has crashed. restart now?” i have the 2.0.172.33 version of google chrome
It doesn’t work for me. 2.0.172.33 crashes with the default.dll
same problem here … the .dll file is not working in 2.0.172.33 version
Chrome crashes in version 2.0.172.33!
