Google Vs Microsoft = Chrome

by Chrome Blog on October 28, 2008

Many people are speculating Google Chrome will become more than just a Web Browser as it evolves, and become more of an “Operating System” so when a comment was left on ChromePlugins.org with a link to an Illustration by Federico Fieni i couldn’t help but chuckle at the humor and wit of his work.

Published with permission from Federico Fieni

Also whatever you do you must check out his Gallery, the work is stunning. The comics are the property of Oneblog network. Federico does Illustrations, Comics, Graphic Design, Web and Logo Design, Cartoons and many other forms of graphic art.

Funny stuff, thanks Federico.

I’m pretty sure Chrome will be the operating system of the future. I explain:

We will all have gadgets with lots of interface features (cams, touch screens, earphones, flexible screens, etc), but little potence and capacity. With a fast and universal wireless connection to the net, everyone will be able to access their stuff, work, data, media, fedds, news, mail, etc online, without storing almost anything in their gadgets.

I’m pretty sure this will happen between ten and fifteen years in the future, and only some nostalgic will keep pendrives and hard disks, as today only some people keep non-flat screens or store in CDs instead of hard disks.

We will not have offline software neither, we will edit our files, read our mails, chat our folks, check our news and rss, listen to our music, watch our videos and TV… everything online, from public or private storages, but online, so the future is in chrome plugins for every single thing.

Mastodontical software and hardware are the past, the future is simple for the user, all the complex and big stuff will be in the servers. We will just carry a single flexible-screend gadget to call, surf, cam, etc, and have a wall-large flat screen at home to do the same but bigger. No mouse, no keyboard (maybe touchable on-screen), no wires, no chosing (gadgets will be configured to find the best way to send something, IM, SMS, email… depending on the connectivity, size and destiny).

This is my opinion, but I find it totally realistic and afordable, as well as the next steps in the line that is already painted. Please forgive my english, I’m from Spain. Thanks for reading, and please debate, I’m interested in this and I think we all have ideas…

edit: if i see the future i don’t even see a screen or display. we will just imagine one though!

@hitesh: I’m talking about something possible today, but that will happen in 10 or 15 years, placing images into brain is today, science fiction… isn’t it?

What about android being the new Google Operating system.
Since it does have the advantage of already being an operating system provided by Google? They just need to make some changes for it to work as a desktop.

We never know what google can do, they have wide potential to overtake every competitor in the IT market. So, its quite viable that they launches their own OS in the coming years, and that too free.

Google wants to control everything. They are no more a search engine. They are more like the main information gateway.
They are already asking ISPs for faster lanes.

Google criticized Microsoft for bundling Internet Explorer with Windows, but now they are confirming their hypocrisy by planning on doing the same. I expect law suites when Google uses their search engine monopoly position to push their operating system like Microsoft used Windows to push Internet Explorer.

why another SO?

what is the pleasure to take work from a person by offering the same thing for free?

google is not a ‘good person’…

can you imagine another guy catching your customers for free?

you have a family?

where are European Union now?
