Thinking Of Disabling The New User Menu For Chrome? Here’s How To Do It

by Chrome Blog on January 14, 2015

An update has recently rolled out for Google Chrome that adds a menu on the upper right-hand side of the application. The menu is used as a profile manager for Google Chrome, allowing the profile to be linked with an Account, consequently powering data synchronization feature in Chrome.

Although it allows you to create and manage multiple profiles, it can be a sort of eyesore for those who don’t switch their profiles frequently.

To disable the menu you need to do the following:

  • Head into the flags menu by typing chrome://flags in the address bar
  • Press on F3 and look for “Enable new profile management system”
  • Disable the drop-down menu
  • Relaunch Chrome

After the restart, the user management menu is removed and is no longer exhibited in the interface. Being disabled, the menu doesn’t affect the browser’s synchronization feature, allowing you to sign-in to Google Account for synchronizing browser settings with other devices.

If you want the old version back, do the following:

  • Type chrome://flags in the address bar
  • Press on F3 and look for “Enable the new avatar menu”
  • Alter the value of drop-down to “Enabled”
  • Launch Chrome again to view the changes
