Opt out of Google & other Advert tracking cookies

by Abhinab Choudhury on March 26, 2012

If you are worried about privacy issues and tracking cookies, here comes an application which can help you get a feel safe assurance. There has been many speculations about privacy issues related to Google, specially with Chrome being the sister on the move.

There is a basic option which is displayed at the Option tab of “Under the hood” settings. The message,” Automatically send usage statistics and crash reports to Google”, simply means that Google will collect information about the crash and other technical issues with the Chrome browser. All your personal data remains private. Still if you want to be in the safer zone here is what you need to do.

IBA Opt-out (by Google)

With many new policy changes and continuous turf between the organisations and the policy makers, it was finally decided that the users must have the right to choose the type of tracking they would want for their browsing activity. You can now directly opt out from the Google Ads network from this page of Google Help. You can also add this official extension, IBA Opt Out  from Google to your Chrome browser to stay out of Google Ad Network. But do remember that doing so will block Google, from providing you with more relevant ads that you have been searching previously.

This helps with the double click cookie applied by Google Ads to track user clicks and browsing habits. This Chrome extension helps you stay out of reach by clearing your cookies each time you start your browser. This plugin works as longs as it has been enabled in the extension manager.

Keep My Opt-Outs

If you are wondering about who can keep a track of your browsing activity other than Google, you will be surprised to know that there are more than 350 major giant advertising companies that have powerful cookies and flash trackers which lurk behind your browser and continuously collects and sends information about usage statistics.

Opt out Extension

There is a latest Google Chrome Opt out extension which can help you get rid of almost all tracking sites. Just install this “Keep My Opt-Outs” and you are done.
To be sure of its implementation, you will need to check the Ads on the site you have opted out of. If they are the same most of time you have sucessfully opted out of the tracker of that website. Repeat the same steps with other websites you have opted out with.
